Since starting in my new job as a Policy and Performance Manager, I have had a lot of hurdles to overcome. I knew when I accepted the job offer that my task would be challenging, but I had no idea of the extensive lack of structure and consistency – clearly why my job role was created in the first place and the employer law.As the organisation I am working for is fairly small, many of the policies and procedures that would have been put into place by a HR or Organisational Development Team have not been. With a background in Personnel, I am extremely aware of the dangers of this and began my mammoth task of introducing various employer law practices to ensure procedures are followed consistently and the organisation remains on the right side of the law.
This has already paid off and the number of constructive and unfair dismissal claims has already seen drastic decreases. I would say that my job here is done, however there is much more for me to do!
