The Train to Gain initiative was introduced by the government in 2006. It aims to help employers fund staff wishing to gain full level 2 qualifications.
The number of people gaining a qualification through the Train to Gain scheme has recently hits the one million mark with over 175,000 employers benefiting from the programme offered by Train to Gain.
The achievement for the programme is significant. As employers are increasing their talent base through train to gain, employees are achieving new skills that can further their own careers and develop their abilities and experiences.
In 2010-2011, the government plans to invest nearly £1bn through Train to Gain, increasing on the £38bn that employers are already investing in training their staff through the Train to Gain scheme each year.
The Train to Gain scheme is under threat of being scrapped should the Conservatives come in to power after the general election. They have stated that they would transfer the Train to Gain budget to other skills projects.
